A man was yesterday remanded after he allegedly assaulted Cuban and Venezuelan women and attempted to rob them.
It is alleged that on December 11th, 2018, at Church and Light streets, Miles Hinds (no address provided) assaulted Catherine Fernandez of Cuba and attempted to rob her of a $1,200 purse and $90,000 cash. It is further alleged that on the same day at Church and Light streets, he assaulted Mitsloris Vasquez of Venezuela and attempted to rob her of a makeup set, purse and other items totalling $155,000 in value.
Hinds pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
According to Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh, Hinds was previously charged with simple larceny and break and enter and he also served two years in jail for wounding.
On the day in question, the police say that the two women were walking when a motorcyclist rode up to them. Hinds was the pillion rider and according to the police he attempted to snatch their bags. The two women held on to their bags and raised an alarm and public-spirited persons came to their aid and nabbed Hinds. The rider of the bike escaped.
Hinds was remanded and was told to return to court on January 21st, 2018 for his next hearing.
