The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) will now host its elections every two years after amending its constitution yesterday.
Board members voted 17 in the affirmative while 12 opted for it to remain a one-year term.
BCB President, Hilbert Foster, along with members of his executive successfully piloted two motions, the first of which, extended the life of the executives from January 1 to end on the December 31 the following year while the second motion allowed for elections to be held every two years instead of every year.
Voting in favour of the motions were Upper Corentyne Cricket Association, Kildonan Cricket Club, Port Mourant Cricket Club, one delegate from the Albion Community Centre, Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club, Mount Sinai Cricket Club, Guymine Sports Club and Mental Hospital while the West Berbice Cricket Association, Berbice River Cricket Association, one delegate from Albion Community Centre, Blairmont Community Centre and Chesney Cricket Club voted against.
The BCB had earlier in the month passed two other motions to include the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and the Young Warriors Cricket Club to its membership. Those motions were passed by votes of 25 to 0 while votes for vacancies on the Berbice Cricket Board executive to be filled at Special General Meetings were passed by a 22-8 margin.
Five Clubs, Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club, Mental Hospital Cricket Club, Guymine Sports Club, Kildonan Cricket Club and Mount Sinai Cricket Club had requested a Special General Meeting of the BCB and the BCB was mandated to hold the Special Meeting within 21 days of receiving the request.
The motions for accepting the two new members and for filling the vacancies on the executive were passed on December 2 while the other two were deferred at the request of the West Berbice Cricket Association.
