A man accused of having 45 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, was on Monday remanded to prison after being charged with the offence.
The charge, which was levelled against Orlando Pillard, was read by Magistrate Faith McGusty, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was claimed that on Thursday, December 13, police arrested Pillard after he was found in possession of 45.5 grammes of cannabis at his residence in Itaballi, Region 7.
It was said that police officers, acting on a tip, at around 9 am, went to Pillard’s home and asked to search the premises. Pillard complied and the suspected narcotics were found in his bedroom, under the mattress, in a transparent plastic bag.
The accused pleaded not guilty, however, bail was denied and he was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until January 7, 2019 and transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
