Mohamed’s Enterprise, became the latest entity to throw its support behind the ExxonMobil International Futsal Tournament, donating an undisclosed sum as well as the trophies and replicas to tournament coordinator the Kashif & Shanghai Organization.
Proprietor Nazr Mohamed made the presentation to Co-Director of the Kashif & Shanghai Organization Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major and GFF Executive Member Dion Inniss.
Mohammed during brief remarks said, “We’re always happy to support Kashif and Shanghai. We have been over 30 years, or longer and we’re always happy for that.”
Meanwhile Inniss, thanked the company for their gesture, declaring that that Mohammed is, “very reliable and consistent partner of football and we’re receiving this donation of trophies and a monetary injection towards the tournament, but I think what is really being demonstrated is that you’re (Mohamed’s) are investing in the youth of Guyana to ensure that they stay out of trouble and having something productive to do.”
According to Inniss, “I mean, the chances of them becoming professional footballers are very slim, but what you’re doing is ensuring that they channel their energies in a very productive day we’re thankful for that.”
The event which is slated to run December 27th-30th, will feature eight teams, three of which will come from the nations Brazil, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. It will be contested in an initial group format.
A Sao Paulo Selection will represent Brazil, while Caledonia AIA and ZV All-Stars will play under the flag of Trinidad and Suriname respectively.
Guyana will be represented by a National Selection, while Linden, Georgetown, East Coast and West Demerara will field All-Star teams.
Winner of the event will pocket $1,200,000, the championship trophy and medals, while the runner-up and third place finisher will cop $600,000 and $300,000 respectively and the corresponding accolades and medals. The fourth placed unit will collect $100,000 and a trophy.
