The professional boxing card dubbed ‘Guyana versus Barbados’ which was scheduled to be staged on Saturday at Xcitenet on Mavis Avenue in Amelia’s Ward has been postponed to early next year.
According to reports reaching this daily, the card has been pushed back due to a hand injury sustained while training by the co-headliner, Gordel ‘The Judge’ Roberts.
Roberts, of Barbados, was scheduled to match gloves with the slick Orlon ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers in a 10-round junior lightweight main event.
A disappointed Rogers confirmed yesterday that the fixture has been postponed to February 9 and will be held at the same venue.
When the event is staged, it will also feature former WBC CABOFE and national champions, Kwesi ‘Assassin’ Jones and Edmond ‘Wonder Boy’ DeClou along with some young and upcoming talent.
The main supporting bout will feature the wily Cleveland Fraser of Barbados matching gloves with the heavy hitting Jones, the local light heavyweight ruler in a six-round contest.
Also in a six-round bout, the skillful DeClou will take on brawler, James Walcott in the middleweight class.
Organizers have also pitted debutant Ricardo Blackman Jr. against the exciting Joel Williamson who will be competing in a professional ring for just the second time in his career. Blackman and Williamson will face off in a super bantamweight clash scheduled for four rounds.
