One person was yesterday arrested as the police continue to investigate Thursday’s shooting at Agricola which claimed the life of 34-year-old Kacey Da Silva.
This was confirmed by Divisional Commander Marlon Chapman who told Stabroek News that the suspect was arrested sometime yesterday. The suspect was being questioned up to last evening.
The police have said that the two suspects in the matter go by the alias ‘Home Alone’ and ‘Gudgie’. However, Chapman was unable to confirm whether either of them is the man who is presently in custody.
Da Silva called ‘Presser’, a resident of Remus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara and his friend Seon Bobb, 24, also from Agricola, were shot several times after a man opened fire on them for laughing at him.
The police had explained that the suspected shooter was involved in a fight at Second Street, Agricola, on Thursday after which both Da Silva and Bobb started to laugh. Their laughter reportedly infuriated the suspect who was handed a handgun by his brother.
After receiving the gun, the man allegedly opened fire indiscriminately at Da Silva and Bobb.
They were both rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Da Silva was pronounced dead on arrival. Bobb was then rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He remains hospitalised.
