New political party to press for constitution reform

A new political party helmed by former Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran, political consultant Dr Henry Jeffrey, attorney Timothy Jonas, and businessman Terrence Campbell will be launched in the coming days with constitutional reform for inclusive governance the cornerstone of its platform.

In a disastrous end to a beautiful day of cricket and when the dust finally settled, Lusignan A,  on the back of Kumar Bishundial’s 6-6 were crowned champions with a 49-run win over Enterprise who played under protest at the Enmore Community Centre Ground on Sunday in the long overdue SPR Enterprise/East Coast Cricket Committee 40-overs tournament.

Den Amstel, MIlerock reach quarter-finals

Elite League members Den Amstel and Milerock sealed their respective berths to the quarterfinal round, following hard-fought wins on Saturday in the Guyana Football Federation [GFF] ‘Stag Beer’ Super-16 Championship.  Witnessed by a sprinkling of spectators at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora, Den Amstel came from behind to defeat Santos 2-1.  Following a scoreless first half, Santos took the lead when Sunil Logan found the back of the net in the 53rd minute.  A swift counterattack led to the goal, as Logan slipped behind the rearguard to latch onto a long ball, before rounding the shot-stopper and slotting into the net.

CARICOM gravely concerned by Venezuela Navy interception in Guyana waters

CARICOM yesterday expressed grave concern at the reported interception by the Venezuelan navy on Saturday of a seismic research vessel flagged by The Bahamas, in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Guyana.  A statement by CARICOM Chairman, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holnesss said “Such acts violate the sovereign rights of Guyana under international law, its entitlement to a territorial sea, Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf, and pose a threat to Guyana’s economic development and national security.  “The Caribbean Community reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, including its right to peacefully explore and exploit its onshore and offshore resources”.
