As I pen this letter I am sure the area of South Ruimveldt Gardens is a residential zone, which is subject to noise restrictions. In this festive season we anticipate many celebrations taking place everywhere with the hope that proprietors and event promoters will adhere to the rules and regulations set out to maintain noise levels which will not affect residents.
At this very moment an event is taking place at the corner of Aubrey Barker Street and the Tucville Bridge with the music excessively loud, bass level so high that vibrations are being felt in the chest, window panes rattling, etc. Over time, events held at this venue have displayed blatant disrespect to residents. Several calls to the police appear to bring interim relief.
On this very occasion, the officer at East La Penitence police station acknowledged receiving several calls which will be dealt with. Indeed, the relief was short-lived as after several phone calls, the bass level continues to be excessively high creating a lot of discomfort.
Editor, are these people above the law? Why aren’t the relevant persons prosecuted?
I would like to suggest to the relevant authority that public outdoor events be banned from this location as the proprietor and events’ promoters display total disrespect for residents in this area.
I sincerely hope this highlighting will not fall on deaf ears and blind eyes. It is my hope that the relevant persons will take every step to ensure that measures are in place to curb this discomfort emanating from music sets in this area to the detriment of the welfare of residents.
