An Angoy’s Avenue businesswoman and her daughter are both nursing gunshot injuries after two gunmen invaded their home on Christmas Eve night.
Angela Khedaroo, 60, of Lot 3 Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, explained that around 10.30 pm, she decided to close her shop at which point two men invaded her home. “When I get up I turn around, there is the man with a gun in front me face and he say, ‘give me all the money you got’, so I turn and tell he that ‘brods, me aint got no money because I invest all the money to buy goods to get a turnover”.
The woman explained that she pushed away the gun thinking that it was a “toy gun”, which led to the perpetrator opening fire. “The bullet pass through me hand and I start holler and me daughter run and then the man open another fire and shoot she. We start holla and the man run and go away”.
However, a second perpetrator attacked the woman’s son-in-law, who they tied up and left in the house, while they ransacked and carted off a few items.
The men also attacked another daughter who was at the back of the yard during their escape. The daughter said, “Them run up to me but me father run with the cutlass and them continue running cause me father go fa chop he”.
Anita Khedaroo, 40, the daughter who sustained a gunshot injury to her left arm, is now on bed rest due to the injury. “The bullet split the bone. We take she hospital, them admit she but them (New Amsterdam Public Hospital) x-ray nah work, so night before last we take she out and carry she private and do the x-ray for $3,500 and then bring she back to the hospital and then them decide to do surgery yesterday”, the mother related.
The family is calling on the police to carry out a thorough investigation. However, Stabroek News was told yesterday that no one has been arrested for the robbery.
