Defending champions Botofago and Eagles earned their respective semi-final berths when the GT Beer Football Championship continued on Wednesday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden.
Donovan Francis bagged a double in the 10th and 21st minute for Botofago as they defeated Topp XX by a 2-1 scoreline. For the loser, Keon Hall scored in the 88th minute.
Meanwhile, tournament favourite Eagles clawed their way past Hi-Stars 6-3. Colwyn Drakes commenced the rout compliments of a 13th minute strike, before guest player Sheldon Holder recorded two goals in the space of one minute to make it 3-0.
Holder recorded his first of an eventual hat-trick through an 18th minute conversion before finding the net again in the 19th minute to hand his side a 3-0 lead at the halftime break.
Upon the resumption, Hi-Stars pulled one back as James Trotman etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 55th minute. However, Holder fired back to restore their three-goal lead with a 76th minute effort.
Hi-Stars veteran forward Tony Adams then recorded a quick-fire brace in the 83rd and 84th minute to move the scoreline to 5-3. Nonetheless, Kendolph Lewis found the back of the net in the 90th+1 minute to seal the result. The semi-final round will commence today at the same venue with another round of matches.
