The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) yesterday awarded two groups from the Bartica and Linden Communities for the proposals submitted based on a Mining Week request for Community Development Project ideas.
A release from the GGMC said that the community development projects are aimed at communities that are dependent on mining activities. The projects will be expected to benefit the community directly and specifically target women and/or children.
The awarded community projects were selected from proposals submitted by any recognised body or group within the selected communities. Those awarded are:
1.The Bartica Community Policing Group
2.West Watooka Farming Development Community Group
Each Group received a cheque for $2m.
