The highly-anticipated clash between energetic Young Warriors Cricket Club and Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets in the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/Ivan Madray 100-ball tournament will now be played in 2019 after overnight rains forced the match to be called off.
This is according to Berbice Cricket Board President, Hilbert Foster who told this publication that the groundsmen had communicated to his body that Port Mourant Community Centre Ground was unable to host the final due to the weather.
Stabroek News understands that the venue for the final did not have a cover for the pitch.
Both captains expressed disappointment that the match was called off.
Shawn Pereira, who captains Rose Hall Town, said they were looking to end the year on a high and with the addition of Clinton Pestano, they were in it with a good chance.
Similarly, Young Warriors’ skipper, Suresh Dhanai said he was looking forward to the inclusion of Shimron Hetmyer who would have made an immediate impact to the side’s chances.
Young Warriors have played three tournaments since their revival a few months ago, making it to the final of each of the tournaments, losing both times to Rose Hall and will look to break the jinx when the final is finally played.
