Team Guyana through to semis despite loss

Roraima Galacticos dismissed Team Guyana 5-3 while Caledonia AIA downed Georgetown All-Stars 6-3 when the ExxonMobil International Futsal Festival continued Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

The home side fell to its first loss to date in front of a large partisan crowd. Arckson Andreazza handed the Brazilians the lead with a fourth minute strike, before Raphael Lopes made it 2-0 one minute later.

The score grew to 3-0, as the crowd grew frustrated at the dominance of the visitors with Leilson DaSilva scoring in the 10th minute.

Guyana eventually pulled one back in the 12th minute through Colin Nelson. The crowd grew in confidence of a possible comeback as Deon Alfred further reduced the deficit in the 15th minute.

However, the Brazilians responded in the 20th minute to make it 4-2 via a Lopes strike, his second of the evening.

The back-and-forth nature of the contest continued, as Nelson recorded his second in the 35th minute to pull the locals within one.

Nevertheless, Lucas Martins ensured Roraima Galacticos maintained their lead with a 38th minute effort.

Similarly, Caledonia AIA downed Georgetown All-Stars 6-3. This also was the first loss for the Georgetown side. Kevon Woodley led the Trinidad and Tobago side with a hat-trick in the third, 13th and 16th minute.

He was assisted by goals from Kerry Joseph, Devoron Jorsling and Haslim Arcia in the in the fourth, 17th and 28th minute respectively.

On the other side, Ryan Hackett bagged a double in the 17th and 37th minute while Pernell Schultz scored in the seventh minute.

Meanwhile, East Coast All-Stars clinched their first win to date, defeating West Demerara All-Stars 7-4. Dwain Jacobs bagged a hat-trick in the eighth, 11th and 30th minute while Selwyn Williams added a double in the 15th and 23rd minute.

Chipping in with goals in the 17th and 26th minute were Quason McLean and Phillip Williams respectively. For the losers, Stephon Jupiter tallied a hat-trick in the fourth, 22nd and 29th minute.

Adding a 18th minute strike was Trayon Bobb. Similarly, ZV All-Stars of Suriname

secured their first victory, edging Linden All-Stars 6-4.

Pinas Terrence recorded a brace in the 22nd and 26th minute while Saling Benjamin added two goals in the 29th and 30th minute. Supporting with conversions in the 11th and 25th minute apiece were Esperance Evawi and Z. Selassie.

For the Lindeners, Damion Williams amassed three goals in the seventh, eighth and 21st minute while veteran Keon Sears scored in the 15th minute.

Winner of the event will pocket $1,200,000, the championship trophy and medals, while the runner-up and third place finisher will cop $600,000 and $300,000 respectively and the corresponding accolades and medals.

The fourth placed unit will collect $100,000 and a trophy. Up to press time, the respective semi-finals, third place fixture and grand finale were being conducted at the same venue.
