Following another round of chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, President David Granger returned to Guyana from Cuba on Tuesday but up to press time, no information about a confirmed meeting between him and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo had been communicated to the PPP.
Contacted yesterday, Jagdeo told Stabroek News that he has heard nothing from the president about the meeting.
In a statement on December 22, the president had said that he is anxious to engage Jagdeo on any concerns he may have following the passage of a PPP/C-sponsored no-confidence motion against the government.
“Mr Jagdeo contacted the Minister of State and a meeting will be arranged as early as possible so that his concerns can be addressed,” the Head of State said.
On December 21, a motion of no-confidence in the Granger-led government was carried 33 to 32 in the National Assembly after government MP Charrandas Persaud defected and voted with the PPP/C.
Meanwhile, unlike previous occasions, there was no press release on the president’s return or photographs of him when he arrived at the airport. Granger left Guyana on Christmas Day. He has treatment sessions scheduled until May this year.
