The Regional Administration of Region Six recently received a brand new boat costing some $8.5M, which will now boost their transportation capabilities to riverine areas.
Regional Chairman, David Armogan, yesterday announced that the boat was delivered by the supplier on December, 30, although it was expected to be delivered early last year.
Armogan told Stabroek News, that the boat was inspected and it appears to be in good condition.
The boat he noted is equipped with a 150 HP engine.
He said, “It is going to be used to take officials …to check work in the riverine areas so that we can have more frequent visits”.
He further explained that the region owned a boat which stopped working a few years back. “We were hiring private boats to visit these areas and because of that we could not go as often as we would like. A lot more emphasis would be placed on the Baracara areas, Orealla and Siparuta”.
According to Armogan, it would cost an average of $150,000 to rent a boat to visit one of those areas.
