Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) prosecutor Patrice Henry yesterday responded to no-case submissions made last month on behalf of the eight Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) directors, who are charged with failing to comply with a court order.
Those charged are Robin Stoby, SC, who is also Chairman of the Board; Edward Anand Beharry, Chairman of Edward B Beharry and Sons Ltd; Suresh Beharry, Vice-Chairman of Edward B Beharry and Sons Ltd; Richard Isava, an investment banker; Shaleeza Shaw; Carlton James; Basil Mahadeo; and Kathryn Eytle-McLean.
It is alleged that they failed to comply with an order issued by the acting Chief Justice Roxane George, SC, for the production of documents for an ongoing criminal investigation. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan is hearing the case.
On December 4, 2018, attorney Edward Luckhoo presented to the court written submissions on behalf of the defendants and also made an oral submission, highlighting key points from the written submissions.
During yesterday’s hearing, Henry responded to the no-case submissions made.
The matter was later adjourned to February 4, when the defence may or may not reply to the prosecutor’s submissions.
