Despite the post-mortem examination delaying the completion of a police report into the murder of Kurutuku toshao Solomon Lewis, the suspect is expected to be charged soon.
This was confirmed by Police ‘F’ Division Commander Kevin Adonis who told Stabroek News on Thursday that the autopsy was not done due to the unavailability of the doctor. As a result, the police have not been able to complete their file.
However, despite this, Adonis said, the suspect who is currently in custody will likely face charges soon.
Lewis was attacked and beheaded on New Year’s Day after intervening in a domestic dispute between his daughter and her husband. While details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, Stabroek News understands that the suspect was physically abusing his wife (Solomon’s daughter), when Solomon and his son Marvin intervened.
As a result, the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and fatally chopped Solomon. Marvin was also chopped and his hand completely severed.
After the incident, the suspect escaped using a boat but was arrested on Wednesday afternoon and has been in police custody since.
