Police from ‘E’ Division (Linden/Kwakwani) on Saturday destroyed a total of eight acres of marijuana plants that were under cultivation at two locations at 20 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, Upper Demerara River.
Police Commander Linden Lord told Stabroek News that on arrival at the first farm which measured five acres, the ranks from the Mackenzie Police Station discovered 2000 cannabis plants measuring 3-8 feet in height with an estimated weight of about 500 kilograms. A nursery with about 200 plants was also found.
Approximately two miles away, the party of policemen destroyed a second farm. This time, three acres of land with approximately 3500 cannabis plant measuring 2-6 feet in height and with an estimated weight of 775 kg along with a nursery with about 500 plants, were found.
At the first farm, police said, two makeshift camps with four hammocks, two mattresses and a quantity of kitchen utensils were found. Over at the second farm, two more makeshift camps with five hammocks, three mattresses, kitchen
utensils, clothing, groceries, one red bicycle along with a water can and six cellular phones were discovered.
The plants and camps were destroyed by fire and the location was marked for further investigation, Lord told Stabroek News. He said that no individual was found at the farms.
