The Guyana Hockey Board’s (GHB) National U19 Development Team continued its impressive showing in its 16th Ventures Invitational Indoor Hockey Tournament Saturday evening notching up two additional wins to end the group stage unbeaten en-route to the semi-finals.
The juniors followed up their first-round win against Shape by defeating an experienced Queen’s Park second XI featuring several players from Guyana’s national senior team, 5-1.
The highly-regarded Omar Hopkinson found the opening strike for the Guyanese in the 11th minute through a penalty corner conversion while Shomere Grant netted five minutes later to extend the lead.
Warren Williams handed the Guyanese a 3-0 cushion in the 29th minute before Shane Samuels – one of the Guyanese on the Queen’s Park side – scored to leave the score 3-1.
The juniors though, completed the 5-1 win following late goals from Shakeem Fausette and Nandalall Persaud.
They then booked their semifinal spot when they lit up the University of the West Indies (UWI) Sports & Physical Education Centre (SPEC) indoor facility by defeating Fatima, another respected Trinidad and Tobago team 5 – 2.
