Sealed with a six over long off, Shimron and Seon Hetmyer steered Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) to a seven-wicket win over Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets (RHTGG) in the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/ Ivan Madray 100-ball final at Albion Sports Complex on Saturday under lights.
Playing in their third final of the year (and after two losing two to this very team) YWCC got their revenge by restricting the imposing batting line up of RHTGG to just 93-6, after they won the toss and opted to bat.
YWCC then replied with 96-3 from 73 balls.
YWCC were off to a dream start with Berbice under-19 player, Trevon Stanislaus, removing Junior Sinclair and Kelvon Anderson in the first over. Both batsmen failed to get of the mark and popped simple catches back to the left-arm spinner off his arm ball, stunning RHTGG and leaving them 3-2.
Jason Sinclair played a number of flashy shots before he was clean bowled by off spinner, Linden Austin for eight while Kevin Sinclair looked to consolidate, hitting Stanislaus for a boundary before he was run out.
Eon Hooper pushed a delivery to short mid-wicket and Kevin Sinclair never made his ground when he was sent back.
He made 13.
Hooper and skipper, Shawn Pereira then moved the score from 25-4 to 61-5 when Hooper departed for a top score of 24 with two boundaries after holding out to point off of birthday boy, Suresh Dhanai.
Pereira finished unbeaten on 21 while Keon Sinclair and Keith Simpson chipped in with 11 and nine runs respectively.
Stanislaus ended with 2-20.
In the chase, Alex Algoo got off the mark with an elegant boundary but Keon Sinclair (2-13) uprooted his stumps in the first over to signal a keen fight.
Ishwar Singh got into a frenzy and smashed four boundaries before he too was bowled by Keon Sinclair for 20.
Kevin Sinclair returned with the ball to bowl three tight overs, picking up 1-15, the wicket of Austin.
When the Hetmyer brothers got into action, it was a regulation ending with Seon Hetmyer finishing unbeaten on 15 while Shimron Hetmyer finished 30 not out having been dropped twice.
Dhanai, who celebrated his birthday on the same day said it was a meaningful win for the club after being set up by Stanislaus. He said that the club had only entered three competitions this year and had lost the two previous finals to this side. He stated that the win was especially pleasing as it was his birthday and against a quality opposition and after two weeks of postponement.
