“Sharky”, the suspect who was apprehended by the police after allegedly robbing a wash bay operator in Georgetown is also being questioned in relation to the 2017 murder of French Guiana-based clothing vendor, Purcell Moore.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that he is likely to appear in court today to answer charges stemming from the robbery.
However, he is also being questioned in relation to several other offences for which he was wanted for.
This includes the murder of Moore which had occurred on December 20, 2017.
Stabroek News had previously reported that Moore was attacked around 7am at Old Road, Craig, East Bank Demerara, a short distance from his parents’ home.
Initial investigations, police had said, revealed that Moore was on his way home when he was confronted by the suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
An argument reportedly erupted between Moore and the suspects and it escalated into a scuffle.
As a result, the armed suspect allegedly discharged several rounds at Moore, who was later rushed to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He had returned to Guyana just a few days before from Cayenne, French Guiana.
Two persons; Selwyn Dawson, 21 and Kelvin Persaud were charged with his murder and have since been committed to stand trial at the High Court for the crime.
“Sharky”, a resident of Golden Grove, EBD was arrested on Sunday afternoon after he and another allegedly robbed a wash bay operator at Lot 1 Conciliation Drive, Georgetown.
The police had said during the robbery, the men held the wash bay operator at gunpoint and carted off his jewellery and a sum of cash at gunpoint.
They then escaped on their motorcycle. However, as they fled the scene, the wash bay operator chased behind them.
During the process, ‘Sharky” allegedly discharged several rounds at the operator’s motor car. The bullets struck the car windshield.
Sometime after the chase, he was apprehended and was found in possession of an unlicensed pistol with a spent ammunition.
The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has been impounded.
Efforts are ongoing to locate his accomplice who managed to flee.
