A vendor was released on bail yesterday after he denied a charge that he was one of two men who robbed a man at gunpoint of his gold chain.
It is alleged that Joel Leitch, 26, of 51 D’Urban Street, Lodge, while being in the company of another, robbed Revon Thorman of his $75,000 gold chain while being armed with a gun on January 4th, 2019, at Trench Road, Mandela Avenue.
Leitch, a father of two, appeared before city magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and he was represented by attorney Clyde Forde.
Forde made an application for his client to be placed on reasonable bail and noted that Leitch would be willing to go along with any conditions which may be set.
Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss had no objections to bail being granted to Leitch but requested that conditions be attached.
Thorman told police that two men, with bandannas covering their faces, approached him on a motorcycle. He alleged that the pillion rider (Leitch) jumped off of the motorcycle, held him at gunpoint and ordered him to empty his pockets. He then allegedly snatched the chain from his neck and rode off.
Leitch was granted his release on $75,000 bail, with the condition that he reports to the East La Penitence Police Station every Friday. Leitch was told to return to court on January 21st for his next hearing.
