The 15th annual Success Games saw Success and Married Men walking away champions on Sunday at the Success Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara.
The highlight of the day was three T20 matches.
The opening match saw an over-35 contest with Success Scheme defeating Line Top by 126 runs in a high-scoring affair.
Batting first after winning the toss, Success Scheme climbed to 259-2 from their allotted overs.
With the openers back in the shed early on, Chandradyal Budhram clobbered the bowling attack with 13 sixes on his way to 138 not out while sharing in a 180-run third wicket partnership with Suraj Sadaram who stroked an unbeaten 81 consisting of seven sixes. Mustafa Azimullah returned 1-23 from his four overs.
In reply, Line Top were bowled out for 133 in 13 overs with Mark Fung taking 4-28 and Sadaram returning with the ball to collect 3-50.
The opening match saw Success Scheme beating Line Top by 50 runs. Success Scheme once again won the toss and elected to bat, posting 229-9 from their allotted overs. Sadaram top scored with 55 and was supported by Anand Rooplall who made 35. In reply, Line Top scampered to 179-9 when the overs ran out. Only Randy Katwaroo looked solid with 33.
In the premier event of the games which, according to the organisers is set to foster friendship among Guyanese, Married Men were sent in to bat and posted 213-6 with Ravindra Ramnauth (58) and Davendra Deosarran (56) hitting half centuries as Man-of-the-Match, Saif Zonbia bagged 3-26. Bachelors found it difficult to bat and were bowled out for 175. Krishna Deosarran was the only batsman to show some fight with an aggressive 62. Fazal Rafiek and Ravindra Rupnauth picked up three wickets each for 26 and 35 runs respectively.
The organisers stated that the tournament was trouble free and urged businesses to get on board with events such as this to help develop sports in communities.
