A Cuban was remanded to prison yesterday, after he was charged for inserting forged immigration stamps into his passport.
The first allegation against Georley Ruiz Veliz, 33, read that on January 4, at the Central Immigration Office, Georgetown, Veliz, with intent to defraud, inserted forged immigration arrival and departure stamps into his Cuban passport.
A second charge read against Veliz, accused him of conspiring with persons unknown to insert false immigration arrival and departure stamps into his Cuban passport.
When he was asked to plead to the charges, Veliz, via translator, said that he did not know what to say and thought that everything was fine. A not guilty plea was therefore entered on behalf of Veliz by the court.
He was afterwards remanded to prison after failing to provide a Guyanese address. The next scheduled hearing is on January 30, 2019.
