A National Quality Policy aimed at informing the development of a framework which will govern the production of goods and services locally, was yesterday launched at the Herdmanston Lodge.
A collaboration between the Ministry of Business and the Guyana National Bureau of Standards, the policy, according to a Department of Public Information release, forms part of the ‘National Quality Infrastructure for Economic Diversification and Trade Promotion’, a US$9 million Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)-funded project.
The release said that Programme Consultant, Dr. Alison Gajadhar, related that the policy is aimed at providing a framework for the development of a National Quality Infrastructure in the business sector, thereby ensuring that there is one consistent approach to attaining a standard concurrent with international best practices.
“…This project in its entirety, once concluded, will see more Guyanese products and services traded internationally,” Minister Dominic Gaskin said during brief remarks, in which he welcomed the initiative and noted that it will “guide the country’s approach to quality and provide the framework to change the way we do things in order to achieve better outcomes”.
It was also reported that the event saw participants being exposed to a demonstration of the National Quality Infrastructure Portal, a website to be launched as part of the programme. The site is expected to be functional by next month,
