I am heartened that Dr Vindhya Persaud is one of the PPP/C Central Committee members being considered as the party’s presidential candidate. I support her nomination and hope she wins the candidacy.
Dr Persaud has a long history with the party but has not been one of the members tainted by allegations of corruption that have followed the PPP/C around for a number of years. She has provided strong leadership of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha and has also proven herself as an articulate, hardworking and knowledgeable politician in her role as a Member of Parliament.
She has always shown herself to be principled, reasoned and cultured amidst much about our politicians and political environment that can only be called indecent and lawless.
That she is of the younger generation should place her as the leading candidate for this important position especially as Guyana stands on the brink of major future development via the oil and gas industry.
We need someone disciplined, fair-minded and responsible at the helm. Dr Persaud fulfils this mandate. That she is a woman tips the balance of the scales for me, as well.
