Mother Nature had the final say last year and only the first leg of the inaugural Triple Crown Series was staged.
Barring inclement weather, ‘The Land of Many Waters’ will get its first taste of a full Triple Crown event this year.
Head of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC), Nazrudeen ‘Jumbo Jet’ Mohamed Jr., is taking the lead in pioneering the ‘Triple Crown’ series.
“Jumbo Jet thoroughbred committee again is taking the lead with the reintroduction of a new style of racing to our local owners. As I might say, we are going international” said Mohamed Jr.
With 21 races, three race days and 20 million dollars on the line, horse racing in the 592 will be taken to new heights.
The first of the three events is slated for February 24 at the Rising Sun Turf Club. The second leg will be staged on March 24 at the same venue, while the finale will run off on April 21 at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
A provisional programme is scheduled to be released shortly.
This is the first Triple Crown for Guyana, as USA is way over 100 already.
Mohamed noted that horses will not be promoted nor demoted for any events in their classes until after the final event.
This is to give your horses a chance to win the bonus and to be crowned the Triple Crown champion in their respective classes.
The Triple Crown series originated in the UK in the 1850’s. Countries like Japan, Hungary, Denmark, the USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Belgium and even Jamaica have since subscribed to that format.
The USA’s Triple Crown which consists of the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness and the Belmont Stakes is widely regarded as the most popular.
