A Route 42 (Georgetown-Timehri) minibus driver was yesterday committed to stand trial for the alleged rape of a woman with a disability.
Sherwin Reynolds, 44, was before a city court on a charge which stated that on April 19th, 2018, at Timehri, he engaged in sexual penetration of the woman.
At the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge yesterday, Magistrate Leron Daly informed Reynolds learnt that based on the whole of the evidence he was committed to stand trial at the High Court for the crime.
Reynolds, who was previously granted his pre-trial liberty, will remain on bail until his trial.
It is alleged that on the day in question, the woman, who cannot speak, was a passenger of the accused’s minibus, which transported her from Georgetown to Timehri. The woman allegedly refused to exit the minibus and she was taken back to Georgetown. She remained in the bus and went for a second time to Timehri.
Reynolds, it is alleged, later drove the woman to a lonely spot and raped her. The woman subsequently went home and informed her parents of what had happened. There was a confrontation and the woman allegedly identified Reynolds, who was arrested and charged.
