An Upper Corentyne lad was found dead yesterday afternoon at the Number 70 Village, Corentyne, Middle Walk Dam.
Dead is Navindradat Bhawan, also known as ‘Altaf’ and ‘Mice’, 21, of Lot 54 Section ‘A’ Number 70 Village, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, sometime after 3 pm yesterday, Bhawan’s body was discovered lying lifeless along the Middle Walk Dam.
Investigators are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination but residents in the area are alleging that the lad was beaten sometime yesterday by two men known to him, concerning $5,000.
Residents in the area are claiming, that around 11.45 am yesterday, Bhawan was present at home when a friend of his visited and reportedly gave him $5,000 to purchase a bottle of rum. According to residents, some threats were made that if the lad did not return with the money or the rum then he would be killed.
Shortly after, 43-year-old Mohamed Safraz Norrdean, a hire car driver, was informed that his nephew Bhawan, who currently resided with him, was lying face down on the Middle Walk Dam. Stabroek News was told, that Norrdean rushed to the scene, picked up Bhawan and took him to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police in Berbice have launched an investigation, however, no one has since been detained. A police source last evening told this publication, that they are awaiting a post-mortem examination, which is expected to be done sometime today, so as to determine their course of action.
Bhawan’s body was discovered on the same dam where Faiyaz Narinedatt was allegedly beaten to death in 2016.
