Arguably Guyana’s most active and visible Table Tennis Club, Titans TTC, is set to embark on another bold initiative when it hosts its inaugural two-day ‘Mental Toughness’ seminar on January 13 and 20.

Both sessions will be held at the Red Cross building from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs and will feature a packed agenda that is spearheaded by former national swimmer and Sports Psychologist, Noelle Smith.

The sessions, according to President and Coach of the Club, Dwain Dick, caters for under 15 and 18 athletes for every sports discipline. He also urged interested CSEC Physical Education students to attend.

“It’s a timely seminar, with Junior Nationals tentatively set for early February. This could be an integral forum for athletes who will be competing at that tournament,” Dick said, as he emphasised the need for athletes to hone mental toughness skills to cope with stressors either in their individual sports or otherwise.

“It’s something that’s lacking in sports in Guyana, the lack of mental training. It’s a barrier we at Titans are trying to overcome. Hopefully, it’s something that we’ll implement in our all-round programme. We have developing athletes, athletes we’re trying to push to the highest possible level, and the onus is on us to start here,” he said.

Registration and attendance at the seminar will cost $1000. Refreshments will be provided for attendees.

Interested persons can contact Dick on 642-7176 or Daniel Thomas 624-7742 before or by today, January 11.
