Over 8,000 marijuana plants were destroyed on Saturday after the Guyana Police Force discovered two farms in the Upper Demerara River area.
According to information coming from the police, between 5 pm and 6 pm, the police, acting on intelligence, went to 8 Miles, Millie’s Hideout, Upper Demerara River, where they found a two-acre marijuana farm with about 2,500 plants measuring one foot to four feet in height, and an estimated weight of 675kg.
Several nurseries with approximately 3,000 plants were also discovered, along with four makeshift camps equipped with hammocks, a mattress, and a quantity of kitchen utensils, groceries and approximately 200kg of dried cannabis.
Additionally, some 7 miles away, another farm was found along with 1,500 marijuana plants measuring two to four feet in height with an estimated weight of approximately 225 kg. A nursery containing 1,500 plants and a makeshift camp along with dried cannabis, with an estimated weight of 100kg was also found.
As a result, the plants, camps, dried cannabis and all the other items were photographed and destroyed by the police and the locations were marked for further investigation.
No one was found on either farm.
