Guyana’s national U19 Indoor Development Hockey Team, Supernova, clinched third place in the University of the West Indies (UWI) Indoor Tournament which ended last evening at the UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) indoor facility in Trinidad and Tobago.
The local juniors defeated Paragon 5-4 to cop the third-place spot.
Two of Guyana’s most exciting players Omar Hopkinson and Warren Williams netted two goals each while Kareem McKenzie netted the fifth to seal the win in the 29th minute after the game was tied 4-4. Kellon Skerritt scored twice while Jabari Perez and Akim Toussaint scored the other goals for Paragon in a losing cause.
Earlier in the day, the Guyanese lost their semi-final match against Police on penalty shootouts after the match ended 3-3 at the end of regulation time.
McKenzie, Williams and Hopkinson were the scorers for the Guyanese while Wayne Legerton netted a hat trick for Police to leave the game to be decided on penalty shoot-out.
