The 16 teams that will compete in the fifth edition of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara Championship, have been identified.
Following the conclusion of the playoff round which was staged Sunday at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, the four groups have been finalised.
According to tournament coordinator Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess, “The playoff round was exceptionally competitive with 25 matches staged to select the remaining eight teams. This increase in team submissions and participations highlights the continuous growth of the tournament which bodes well for its future.”
He added: “With the respective groups decided, we expect a highly competitive tournament to declare the winner.”
Group-A of the event features three time defending champion Showstoppers, Boom-Bang, Up-Top Ballers and Up-Like-7, while group-B comprises Dream-Team, Brothers United, Genna and ESPN.
Group-C consists of West Side Ballers, Phoenix Ballers, Jetty Gunners and rising Stars, while group-D contains Agricola, Bagotstown Warriors, Ballers Empire and Young Ballers.
The competition is slated to commence Friday at the same venue. The tournament which is slated to last for the duration of six nights.
The top two finishers from each group will advance to the quarterfinal round. The other playing dates are January 25th, February 1st, 6th, 8th, with the final pencilled for the 15th.
