Former national under-19 captain, Travis Persaud was deemed the Most Valuable Player of the McGill Super Stars SC when they hosted their annual awards ceremony last week at the New Thriving Restaurant, Providence.
Persaud’s all-round effort saw him scoring 465 runs with a top score of 99 not out as well as taking 17 wickets with a best of 3-21 after 18 matches in the year.
During the night, Prahalad Singh was deemed the best fielder while Azar Deen was adjudged the most improved player scoring 152 runs and taking five wickets from 12 matches.
Abdul Razack copped the most wickets award with 23 from 13 matches, finishing with a best of 4-9. He also won the all-rounder of the year prize for scoring 237 runs in addition to his wickets.
Troy Persaud, who scored 359 runs and took nine wickets from 20 matches was adjudged the junior cricketer of the year, with a best of 77 with the bat and 5-9 with the ball.
Sudesh Persaud won the senior cricketer of the year with 288 runs and 21 wickets under his belt.
The tradition, which has been an annual event since 1992, saw overseas based veteran of the club, Rameshwar Persaud speaking highly of the club’s efforts to see their players do well in Guyana’s cricket while Dean Ramrattan stressed on the difficulties of the years gone by for the club to reach where it is today.
Sudesh Persaud, the club captain spoke on behalf of his fellow members and expressed thanks to everyone who attended the ceremony. He also added that “from 1992 to now it wasn’t an easy road but through thick and thin the club stood together and stood tall and that is the reason for their success over the years.”
The club’s MVO expressed thanks to all the sponsors of the club and welcomed the kind words of the veterans of the sport while pledging to continue doing well for the club.
