Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) handed Chesney Cricket Club an 106-run beating during the latest round of the Berbice Cricket Board/New Building Society second-division 40-overs tournament on Sunday.
Playing at Chesney Ground, YWCC skipper Suresh Dhanai won the toss and opted to bat with his team climbing to 331-7 from their allotted overs.
They then limited the hosts to 225 all out in 29.3 overs on a windy day with glorious sunshine conducive for cricket.
YWCC lost Vishaul Mahabir for just eight runs in the fifth over but that did not faze national under-19 opener, Alex Algoo who blasted three fours and five sixes on his way to 68.
The talented right-handed batsman shared a second wicket partnership worth 79 with Ricardo Ramdehol who contributed 11 before both batsmen were dismissed by M. Deonarine in the 16th over.
Mortimer Fraser looked flashy with three fours and a six but was bowled by A. Gajnabi for 23.
It was then Sanjay Khan’s turn to take it to the opposition. Khan clobbered his first delivery for a six down the ground, hitting eight more with the same result along with seven fours during his knock of 92.
Khan added 106 runs for the sixth wicket with Dhanai who laced eight fours and a pair of sixes as he remained unbeaten on 70. M. Subadar managed to pick up three late wickets and finish with 3-45 from five overs.
In the chase, Dhanai struck J. Samaroo on the jaw with the first ball of the match, ending his further participation in the match.
Imran Khan, solidified the middle with a responsible 96 before being bowled by Mahabir. The 36-year-old former national player forged a half century stand for the second wicket with B. Foo (15) but lost three partners in the space of 20 runs.
However, Safraz Khan (17) joined him at the crease and the pair added 70 for the fifth wicket. Only Subadar (30) and R. Singh (22) showed any resistance against the bowling line up which was led by Mohabir who finished with 5-48. Jermaine Henry chipped in with 2-35 and Dhanai 1-33.
