A Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice businessman was yesterday afternoon robbed of his car and over $400,000 in cash at Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne.
The attack occurred around 3.15 pm, while Sahidrul Satar, also known as ‘Roshan,’ 46, who takes and delivers grocery orders, was carrying out his business. Two men, with a pieces of cloth tied around their faces, pounced on him.
Stabroek News was told, that one man was armed with a handgun, while the other was armed with a knife.
The businessman was at a shop when one bandit suddenly placed a gun to his head and the second placed a knife to his lower body. This publication was told that one of the bandits then reached into the man’s pocket and grabbed the cash and a gold chain from Satar, after which they demanded his keys.
However, after the man informed the bandits that his keys were in his car, they then ran to the vehicle and drove off.
According to information gathered, Satar then sought the assistance of a hire car driver, who chased after the bandits. The car was later discovered at Black Water Dam, which is located in the same area.
Stabroek News was told that Satar spotted the bandits escaping into the backlands and he recognised one of the perpetrators after the cloth fell from his face. He then called on the bandit, who discharged three rounds in his direction. No one was injured. In addition to the gold chain, the men took a total of $433,000 from Satar.
The bandits are suspected to be from East Canje Berbice. Investigators believe that they would have trailed the businessman and waited for the opportune time to launch their attack.
The police have launched an investigation and are on the hunt for the suspects.
