Trinidad: Leaky water line blamed for road collapse

(Trinidad Guardian) Emer­gency re­pairs to a ma­jor land­slip along the Moru­ga Road, In­di­an Walk, Princes Town have be­gun.

Res­i­dents said that around 7 pm Tues­day, they heard a rum­bling sound and found that a sec­tion the road, which was be­ing re­paired, had col­lapsed.

They said they sus­pect a leak­ing WASA line was to blame.

The wa­ter line had been leak­ing for some time and de­spite com­plaints from res­i­dents, noth­ing had been done. WASA crews were on the site on Wednes­day, seek­ing to stem the slip.

In a Face­book post on Wedne­say, Moru­ga/Table­land MP Dr Lovell Fran­cis said that the road con­trac­tor is al­ready on site to at­tend to the restora­tion as soon as that job is com­plete.

He said PURE has sug­gest­ed that once the line is re­paired the road restora­tion will like­ly take a day.

“The ob­vi­ous so­lu­tion here is to place these lines above ground but WASA has sug­gest­ed that giv­en the lay of the land here this is a dif­fi­cult propo­si­tion but it is a longer dis­cus­sion we will be hav­ing,” Fran­cis said.
