An Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast youth lost his life last evening after being struck down by an intoxicated driver.
Dead is Rajendra Anauge, 19, of Section B, Onderneeming Public Road, Essequibo Coast, while a 23-year-old resident of Suddie Housing Scheme was in police custody up to last night assisting with the investigation.
According to police, the accident occurred about 6.40 pm on Friday when motorcar PSS 7038, which was being driven by the 23-year-old Suddie resident, who was reported to have been traveling at a fast rate, lost control while negotiating a turn and collided with Anauge.
Police added that Anauge was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state, and he later succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver was administered a breathalyser test, which he failed.
