The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana will be assisting the National Blood Transfusion Service in their Blood Donation Drive.
We encourage you to support the Blood Donation Drive that will be held at the Roraima Duke Lodge today from 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs.
The purpose of the blood collection and distribution system is to ensure an adequate supply of blood and blood components for accident victims, patients needing surgery and people suffering from various diseases in both public and private hospitals countrywide.
In addition to saving lives and self-pride, blood donation is beneficial to the donor since it;
Boosts the production of red blood cells
· Lowers cholesterol
Is beneficial for the heart as it may lower the risk of heart attacks and stroke when you give regularly.
As part of the screening process prior to blood donation every blood donor is asked a series of questions regarding health-related illnesses and is given a mini-physical checking;
Bodyweight
Blood group if you do not know it
Temperature
Blood pressure
Pulse
And haemoglobin to ensure it is safe to give blood.
