One year has passed since the manager of Korner Kick Restaurant and Bar Tevin Parris was murdered and his family is still seeking justice.
“All is not lost and I am going to continue to fight. I am going to go down fighting and I will get justice for my son,” the dead man’s mother, Natasha Bernard, recently told reporters.
His family and friends held a candlelight vigil for Parris last Sunday, during which their calls for justice were renewed.
Parris, 21, of Lot 66 Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty, Georgetown, was discovered dead in his home with a gunshot wound to his head on the morning of January 8th, 2018.
This newspaper had previously reported that his lifeless body was discovered in a bedroom located in the upper flat of his house by an uncle around 8.20 am.
A gun was found next to his body. He was not a licensed firearm holder.
While suicide was initially suspected, an autopsy later showed the injury sustained by Parris was not self-inflicted.
Investigators are yet to determine the ownership of the firearm.
A man, said to be a friend of Parris, was arrested for the crime but was subsequently released without being charged.
Bernard said following her son’s death she had some obstacles to deal with but she is now “back on track” and her fight for justice would continue. “To the person or persons who would have done this great injustice to me and my family, I want you to know that God doesn’t sleep and neither will I until justice is served,” she said.
She thanked law enforcement officials for the work they have done so far and urged them to continue until they find the person/s responsible for the murder. “To those in authority I am asking you to please continue doing what you are doing and the ones higher above that have been helping me please continue to help me,” Bernard pleaded.
Meanwhile, David Parris lamented that the family is yet to receive answers about what transpired that led to his nephew’s murder. “…What initially started as a two-week promise by the authorities to at least let us have some kind of information as to what exactly happened to Tevin has now turned into one year,” he said, before adding, “…we need answers as to what happen to Tevin one year ago.”
