Grammy-winning British singer Joss Stone is expected to perform in Guyana later this month for the benefit of local non-governmental organisation Help and Shelter and the University of Guyana’s Artist in Residence Programme.
According to a University of Guyana (UG) press statement that was issued yesterday, Stone will be performing on January 28th at the Eucalyptus Garden Amphi-Theatre of the Theatre Guild in Georgetown, alongside local artistes, including Lerone Souvenir, Atajah, Mikey Smith, Indus Voices and Gavin Mendonca.
It noted that Stone, who won the Grammy in 2007 for best R&B performance, is on the last leg of her Total World Tour this month in the Caribbean and is in Cuba, with a planned performance in Haiti next week before making her way to Guyana and then Suriname.
The statement said Stone’s performance will kick off the “growing Guyana season of Jazz and R&B,” which will culminate in the much anticipated G-Jazz Festival in April, 2019.
The event is a partnership between the Joss Stone Foundation, the Theatre Guild, UG, the Culture Ministry’s Department of Music, the Business Ministry’s Tourism Department and the British High Commission in Guyana.
Tickets for the concert are currently on sale, with prices listed as $6000 for ringside chairs and $3,000 for seating on the grass. They can be purchased at the University of Guyana’s Office of Philanthropy and at the Theatre Guild on weekdays from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm.
