Linden teen held over stolen gun released from custody

The police have released the juvenile who was taken into custody last Wednesday after he took them to an abandoned house in Mackenzie, Linden, where he had hidden an unlicensed firearm that he reportedly stole.

Police Commander Linden Lord on Friday told this newspaper that the teen was released into the custody of his aunt. In addition, he stated that the file that was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office was returned, and that a request had been made for a probation report on the juvenile be part of the file.

Lord said they have since indicated this to the probation officer, who is compiling a report. Following this, the file will be resent for advice.

Police had gone to the home of the juvenile after gathering intelligence, and confronted him on his knowledge of the illegal firearm in the presence of his aunt.

After denying knowledge and possession of the firearm, he was taken into police custody in the company of his aunt. While in custody, police said the teen admitted to having an illegal firearm, which he informed the ranks he stole from a bond on the West Coast of Demerara.

After his admission to the police, the teen took the ranks to the abandoned house, where they found the gun in a non-functioning gas stove.
