Cabinet has given its no-objection to the award of several multi-million dollar contracts for sea and river defence works and the construction of urban roads, including a new exit from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, State Minister Joseph Harmon disclosed last Friday.
These contracts were among 36 which were noted by Cabinet at its Sub-Committee on Tuesday, January 15th. These contracts were awarded by the procurement entities and the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB).
Harmon noted that under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Puran Brothers Disposal Incorporated has been awarded a $56.5 million contract for the construction of a new exit road from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Terminal Building, at Timehri.
He also said that under the ministry, R and B Investment Incorporated was awarded a $41 million contract for the construction of an urban road at Middle Street, Henrietta, while Guyana-America Construction Incorporated was awarded a $19 million contract for the construction of a roadway at Nursery School Street, Lima.
In regions Five and Six, three contracts were awarded under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure for road rehabilitation/construction. A and A Engineering Services was awarded a $53.6 million contract to rehabilitate the Access Road at Trafalgar, Region Five; Bardon Construction Services was awarded a $48.4 million contract for the rehabilitation of the main access road, sea dam and side dam at Number 22 Village, Region Five; and XL Engineering was awarded a $48.2 million contract for the rehabilitation of Last Street, Liverpool, Region Six.
Additionally, Harmon disclosed that a contract for “the hospital roundabout to the Campbelltown main access road into Mahdia and roundabout to the government quarters” has been increased from $387.8 million to $558.4 million. The contractor is J. R. Ranch Incorporated.
Under the Ministry of Communities, he said a $21.4 million contract was awarded to K and P Project Management Company for the construction of the Tabatinga Bridge approach, Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo Region – Phase II, while Memorex Enterprise has been awarded a $35.4 million to supply road-building materials.
Harmon said that under the Ministry of Business, Colin Talbot Contracting Services has been awarded a contract which has been increased from $384.8 million to $488.7 million for the Lethem Industrial Estate Infrastructure Development works, which includes construction of roads, drainage structures, water distribution networks and retention ponds.
With regards to sea and river defence works, Harmon said that under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Samaroo Investment was awarded a $109.8 million contract (increased from $88.4 million) for the construction of sea and river defence structures within Region Two to Region Six.
BK International, he said, was awarded a US$2 million contract for similar works under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure at Grove/Lookout, in Region Three.
Meanwhile, Harmon also disclosed that contracts were also awarded under the Ministry of Agriculture for the construction of pump stations in four regions.
He said that a contract worth $208 million has been awarded to Samaroo Investment for the construction of a pump station at Devonshire Castle, Essequibo, Lot 3, in Region Two.
Contracts were also awarded to J. R. Ranch Incorporated and GSK Excavation Services (Joint Venture) in the sum of $229.8 million; S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Services in the sum of $205 million; General Engineering Supplies and Services Incorporated in the sum of $214.4 million; and Roopan Ramotar Investment in the sum of $225 million for similar works at Dem Amstel, West Demerara; Nootenzuil, East Coast Demerara; Hope, East Coast Demerara; and Mora Point, Mahaica- Berbice, respectively.
Additionally, Machinery Corporation of Guyana was awarded a contract in the sum of $77.7 million for the procurement for a new 3512B generator set for the drainage pump station at Montrose, East Coast Demerara.
Under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Harmon said that a $112 million contract has been awarded to H. Nauth and Sons Civil Engineering Contractors for the rehabilitation of the Kamana airstrip in Region Eight.
Additionally, under the Ministry of Agriculture, H. Nauth and Sons Civil Engineering Contractors was awarded a $25 million contract for the construction of an access bridge at the abattoir compound, in Region Five.
