(Trinidad Guardian) An 82-year-old woman was killed instantly after a collision with a car and a Regiment truck at the intersection of the Priority Bus Route and Pasea Main Road, Tunapuna, on Monday.
Police identified the victim as Genora Sandy. Another occupant of the vehicle Ivan Pierre was rescued.
According to a police report, shortly after noon, the truck collided with a Toyota Aqua car. The car also struck a red band maxi taxi.
Fire officers from the nearby Tunapuna Fire Station responded within minutes and had to use a hydraulic cutting tool to remove Sandy.
Public relations officer of the Defence Force Flight Lieutenant Monique Sprott in a statement yesterday expressed condolences to the woman’s relatives on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff Rear Admiral Hayden Pritchard and officers, men and women of the TTDF.
“The Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF) informs that the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment (TTR) will immediately conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate accident and will give its fullest support to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) as it conducts its investigations into the circumstances of the accident,” the release said.
