Dear Editor,
As a Guyanese citizen, artist and member of the St.Pius X RC Church I implore my Guyanese compatriots and members of different religious denominations to reject the 60-year-old political parties and the venomous scourge of racism which has nothing to do with God and the purpose for which He has created us. Racism is a crude tactic of the politicians to divide and rule over God’s people, it teaches hate for another fellow being. Stop being an instrument of these politicians for they lead to the depths of Hell and the damnation of the Soul. Religious leaders cannot stand by and allow the destruction of the lives of their congregation.
They must intercede and point out that the electoral process is flawed and unjust as it allows for one Party that developed a race base to rule over another because it is numerically larger. The unequal distribution of land and benefits derived as well as opportunities are given to one segment of our society to the disadvantage and pauperization of a great many of our people who are all God’s children. In other countries where there are ethnic minorities, the legislature has been put in place to create a level electoral field so smaller groups who are stakeholders would not be denied their place in society. In Guyana it is the “winner takes all” which is inhumane and certainly not the way of God and His Holy Teaching or the Holy Shastras. I sincerely hope that my message reaches out to the wider Guyanese society and that religious leaders and other concerned citizens let their voices be heard.
Yours faithfully,
Desmond Alli
