Dear Editor,
Before making any aspersions, I wish to ask any member of the current government the following question: why was the conferral of Senior Counsel status taken from Timothy Jonas? I wish to put this question to any member of the PNCR or the AFC. Please provide me with an answer. I am a citizen of this country and I am entitled to an answer. For the record, I do not know Mr. Jonas. I have never met him. I have no interest in meeting him. I am not a member of his political party.
Before a response is put forward, let me say the following: Mr. Jonas was identified by the Ministry of the Presidency for this recognition. Hence, it is reasonable to assume that he is qualified and has met the requirements outlined by the government for this upgrade. The coalition government has a number of lawyers within its ranks. For these lawyers in government to condone this treatment to one of their own speaks volumes of their ability (or inability) to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong. I wish to hear Mr. Ramjattan, Mr. Trotman, Mr. Nagamootoo, Mr. Harmon, Mr. Williams (all lawyers) provide a logical reason why the conferral on Mr. Jonas was taken away. One hopes that this incident is not microcosmic of the ethos of this government.
As a potential voter, I am waiting, watching and listening for an explanation. It is not good enough to say the PPP/C did worse. You promised us better. In this incident, the coalition government has descended into the trenches of vindictiveness and malevolence. This castigation will be plausible if an explanation cannot be provided. I, like so many Guyanese, await a response.
Yours faithfully,
Mohammed Saddam Hussain
