Dear Editor,
I note with dismay the cartoon by Paul Harris depicting the Georgetown Public Hospital as a meat grinder sending out coffins. It is – like many of his increasingly bitter and lazy cartoons of late – not funny. And it is highly disrespectful to the hardworking nurses, doctors and staff of the hospital.
For the record, the staff of the GPHC helps over 6,000 mothers every year give birth safely and without incident. Tens of thousands of other patients are treated and go home healed.
Perpetuating stereotypes “for a laugh” about vital institutions such as the GPHC serves to undermine public confidence in them and demoralises those working there.
Yours faithfully,
Albert Russell
