Leslain Baird, Daniel Williams and field standout, Tortque Boyce were among the outstanding performers when the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) staged its second Development Meet of the 2019 season on Sunday at the Enmore Community Centre Ground.
Baird, the national javelin record holder easily won his pet event with a throw of 61.52m. The Guyana Defence Force product then proved to be just as explosive with the discus, winning the Men’s 20+ discus event with a throw of 40.01m.
Williams of the Upper Demerara sprinted to the top honors in the Boys 17-19 300m race in 37.23s
Boyce, a CARIFTA Games representative last year, won the Boys 17-19 high and triple jump events.
Boyce secured the top honors in the high jump with a vertical leap of 1.85m.
He then took his talents to the pit and hopped, stepped and jumped to 13.45m to win the triple jump event.
Meanwhile, Kenisha Phillips of the Running Brave Athletic Club stormed to victory in the Girls 17-19 300m dash in 42.02s.
Other standout athletes on Sunday included: Princess Brown (Girls 13-16 triple jump), Cassie Small (Boys 17-19 60m and 150m), Tonya Rollins (Women’s 20+ 150m) and Alita Moore (Women’s 20+ 60m).
According to an AAG release, Sunday’s meet was the second track and field event for 2019. It was used once again to evaluate the competitive level of local athletes coming into the season. The first one was staged at the GDF ground on January 16.
The third meet which will comprise of the same odd distance events, will be staged at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora from 09:00hrs on February 9.
