In the latest round of the East Coast Cricket Committee, SPR Enterprise 40-overs tournament, Buxton, Strathavon, Lusignan A and Lusignan B chalked up wins over the weekend.
At Cane Grove, Buxton defeated the hosts by six wickets. Buxton won the toss and elected to bowl, dismantling the hosts for 106 in 19.3 overs and then responding with 110-4 in 11.2 overs. For Cane Grove, R. Zaman (30) and K. Deosarran (23) looked solid as Clive Andries (2-16), G. Surijpaul (3-30), A. McPherson (2-14) and R. Merell (2-20) got among the wickets. Buxton’s chase of the sup par score was led by Owen Andrews with an unbeaten 61 consisting of 10 fours and one six. Andrews shared in a 56-run partnership for the third wicket with Andries who made 16.
At Ogle, rain forced the match to start after noon with Strathavon winning the toss and sending the hosts in to bat. Ogle were bundled out for 84 in 25 overs with Michael Deonarine, coming in at number eight, top scoring with 24 not out. West Indies player, Chandrapaul Hemraj snatched 3-8 while M. Ronald bagged 3-12. In the chase, Strathavon coasted to 52-6 in 11 overs with S. Budhu and Hemraj scoring 15 and 14 runs respectively. Ajodha Joseph rocked Strathavon with 3-8 while Andre Gomes halted their march with 2-4.
At Lusignan, Lusignan B defeated Mahaica Sports Club by five wickets. Mahaica batted first and were shot out for 69 in 21 overs with A. Persaud’s 28 being the top score while Navin Persaud contributed 16. Karamchand Persaud returned 4-20 and was supported by 13-year-old Nicholas Shiopersaud with 3-3.
In the chase, Davenanad Samaroo led from the front with 33 as Lusignan B reached 70-5 in 17.5 overs.
Also, Lusignan A registered an eight-wicket win over Lusignan East. Lusignan East were sent in to bat where they scampered to 88 all out in 26 overs. S. Mahadeo top scored with 22 and Vickram Doodnauth snatched 3-24 as well as Chanderpaul Ramraj who chipped in with 2-12.
Lusignan A were guided to 94-2 in 15.1 overs as Steve Ramdass showcased his array of shots across the ground which resulted in six boundaries during his knock of 47 not out. Shazam Ali supported with 27 not out.
