Reigning Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) U19 champions, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), began the 2019 season with a clinical 10-wicket win over Eco Champs in the Noble House Seafoods Next Generation U19 100 balls competition at DCC Saturday.
Eco Champs won the toss and batted but were bundled out for 45.
Only opener Dominic Roberts (19) reached double figures.
It was a clinical bowling effort by the host team, led by national U19 seamer Qumar Torrington who took 2-21.
Dequan Bamfield (2-9), Muniram Singh (2-11) and Jason Holder (2-3) were also among the wicket takers for DCC, who, in reply, raced to 47 without loss.
The in-form Sachin Singh clobbered four fours and three sixes in an unbeaten knock of 36 while his opening partner Tameshwar Permaul (six not out) watched the highlight package from the other end.
Transport Sports Club (TSC) was also in winner’s row after they comfortably defeated Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by 10 wickets at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.
GYO, batting first, were skittled out for 48 with Joel Spooner (4-6) and Riyah Latif (4-12) sharing eight wickets between them to set up the win.
National U19 batsman Adrian Hinds then eased his way to two fours and a six in an unbeaten innings of 30. He got support from Alvin Mohabir (10 not out) as TSC cruised to 54-0 in 10 overs to begin their season on a winning note.
